The Power of A Written Manifesto
I was talking to a friend today. It’s been on my mind to call for a few days. As we spoke she said she was actually talking about me a couple of days ago and said she needed to call me. That’s exactly how the universe works.
Anyway, during the call she said, “You’re actually the reason that I got this new house.”
“Really?” I asked.
“Yeah,” she said. “You told me to write my manifesto. I did. And a few months later this house came along and happened very easily.”
Manifestos are powerful. A few weeks ago, I picked back up the habit of reading mine daily and really feeling the words that I’ve written. It feels good. As I’ve started to get back to feeling good….deep down in my bones good about everything…amazing things have started to happen.
How do you write and use a manifesto?
Write the things that you desire in the present tense. Example: I am a New York Times best selling author. I travel the world for weeks at a time and afford it effortlessly.
Make the statements positive. For example, instead of saying: I’m no longer sick, say I am healthy.
Revise it as necessary. Eventually, you’ll start receiving the things you’re asking for. Other times, you’ll read it and certain sentences won’t resonate with you anymore. Or you’ll think of other things that you want. This document isn’t meant to be static, update it whenever it feels right.
Don’t worry about how. You don’t have to figure out how you’re going to get these things. Don’t try to do that at all. Just believe that they will happen. Do the things that you’re inspired to do. You’ll notice little nudges moving you into a certain direction. Follow that and be happy while you’re doing it. Eventually, you’ll see things unfold in ways that you couldn’t have imagined. The more you worry about insignificant things like “how” the further away you move from receiving what you want.
Read your manifesto every day, preferably first thing in the morning. There are some people that believe you should write it and forget about it. I’ve tried this both ways and I’ve found that when I read it daily that’s when things really happen for me. I think it’s because it reminds me of exactly what I want and that I’m going to get it. When I don’t read it, that’s when I find myself sinking into worry and fear. Reading signals to my mind that everything is already done and I don’t need to worry about it.
Why does this work?
Our brains are powerful and we can program them to believe anything that we want them to. It took me years to understand this. We receive so much programming from our parents and society and most people never realize it.
Have you ever found yourself saying any of the following:
“I can’t afford that.”
”I hate working out.”
”You have to work hard to make money.”
”Life’s a struggle.”
” I never have enough time.”
Well, those are all messages you’ve programmed into your brain. Maybe someone said that to you or maybe you just made it up on your own. Either way, those are messages that you repeat to yourself so therefore you believe them and things happen to prove you right.
A manifesto is great because it allows you to reprogram your brain to what you want it to believe. The statement is full of positive affirmations and achievements. It’s how you’d like your life to be. The reason I recommend reading it daily is because the first couple of times you read it, you might not believe it. If you’re like how I was, you’ve been telling yourself some negative things for years. You need some time for the new messages to replace that stuff. After a few weeks, you’ll slowly start to shift. The more you do it, the better you’ll feel.
I know this all sounds like hocus pocus. I get it. I was as skeptical as they come. But this is one of the things that’s really changed my life. Just pay attention to the thoughts that you think through an entire day. Who told you those things? Who decided those statements were true? Wouldn’t it be nice to remove the negative stuff? Well, you can and this is one of the ways.
Let me know how this works for you.
