Week 3 of Quarantine: Mastering Exercise

Yesterday would have been my one year anniversary at Vesta, kickboxing studio here in Atlanta. In honor of this milestone, I decided to make it a point to figure out how to exercise while the gym is closed for at least one more month.

Before Vesta, I didn’t exercise regularly. Since I’ve joined the gym, I work out 5-6 times per week most weeks. The first two weeks after the coronavirus hit the US and places started to close are the longest that I’ve gone without working out. Now that I’ve refocused my goal is five days a week.

So what am I doing? In the past few days I’ve come across a million and one different articles on exercises to do at home. What I’ve found works best for me is walking for an hour and running a few sets of stairs for cardio. Then I follow that with two rounds of a set of nine strength training exercises.

I’m not going to get into all the strength exercises you can do at home, because I’m not a fitness coach (If you’re looking for basics, I suggest squats, pushups and planks).

However, I would like to champion walking during this time. It’s a simple exercise and also a great way to get some fresh air and clear your mind. When I travel, I eat tons, but I also walk a lot. This is how I learned that walking keeps off the weight. There are tons of other benefits.

Of course, keep 6 feet away from your fellow walkers.
