This Time, I Think It Will Stick

This is my 31st post! That means I’ve posted every day for a month. I’ve tried to do this time and time again and I always failed, but this time I did it. I plan to continue for the entire year, but I thought that it was important that I acknowledged my success so far. (*Pats self on the back.)

So how did I overcome my writer’s block?

  1. I didn’t think about it as much. I removed the idea that it had to be any good or that anyone would read it. This was incredibly freeing. I’ve just been writing for the hell of it.

  2. I didn’t pick a topic. For years, I felt like I had to be “on brand”. Most of the posts are about food, beverage, and culture in some way, but that’s because those are the things that I naturally think about. I’ve also added health, exercise and self-development. Turns out, these things are all connected anyway.

  3. I wrote down all my ideas. As I thought about something throughout the day that could be a post, I’d write it down. Sometimes those turned out to be good ideas, sometimes they were terrible. The real benefit though is that my mind is becoming sharper at thinking about ideas in general.

  4. I started to understand my why. I’m a writer and I’ve finally figured out what type of writing I’d like to do. I want to write for TV/film. Somewhere between watching the Spielberg doc and Who’s the Boss, I realized that.

  5. I believed I could. Writing above “I’m a writer” is a big deal for me. I’ve finally started to claim that. Believing that statement wholeheartedly is one of the main reasons that I’ve been successful in writing this time.

See you in another 30 days! Well, actually tomorrow.
