Habana Outpost
Brooklyn, New York off the beaten track? I’m starting to realize that it is. I’m also realizing that I don’t post enough about my trips to places in the United States. After all, it is traveling. Today I’m posting about Brooklyn, New York. The place formerly only known from references in Jay Z songs. The place that has me exhausted from spending part of Memorial Day weekend there. The place that has all of a sudden become cool…really cool.
So what good is Brooklyn when you have Manhattan?

I used to run to LA when I wanted chicken and waffles, but not anymore, now I can run to Prospect Heights, Brooklyn. All the food here is great. For some reason, my 15 closest friends and I always decide to go here for brunch, knowing they can’t fit us all anywhere near the same table. Good times regardless.
Habana Outpost

Brooklyn, NY 11217

I already liked the Ft. Greene section of Brooklyn. Then, I found out about Habana Outpost. See, one of my favorite places to eat in Manhattan is Habana Cafe. Habana Outpost is like it’s cool younger brother that always acted a few years older. All of the great Cuban food that’s at the original can be found here, including the fabulous corn. (Yes corn. I see that confused look on your face and that’s how I know you’ve never had it. Try it, I’m sure you’ll love it.)
Sea

Brooklyn, New York

Thai food with a great ambiance and even better great prices. It’s in Williamsburg. Expect hipsters.
Chiles & Chocolate

Brooklyn, NY 11217

This is not a Mexican restaurant. That’s the first thing they’ll tell you. The cuisine is actually Oaxacan. (Yes, Oaxaca is in Mexico, but I’m guessing they just mean it’s not Tex-Mex.) Anyway…the place is tiny, but the food is great. I also had a wonderful cup of hot chocolate after my fish tacos. A win of an afternoon. Yes, I realize that hot chocolate and fish tacos doesn’t really make sense together.

The first time I walked in here, I was completely overwhelmed! This thrift store has just about everything you can imagine. They also allow you to sell or trade your clothes here. And the bonus is that it’s in one of my favorite Brooklyn neighborhoods, Williamsburg. (There’s also one in Park Slope, but this one is bigger.)
See
Brooklyn Bridge

It’s clearly the photographer in me…the view of Manhattan is amazing. I’ve used this area for many shoots. I spent the end of Memorial Day laying out on the grass people watching and trying to hunt down water in Dumbo.
Brooklyn Botanical Gardens

Party
There is no easy way to keep up with all of what is going on in Brooklyn. When I’m planning on being in town (or just to be nosy), I check the Minority Report blog. It’s the best resource I’ve found so far.
