Next Stop: Charging to Breathe on Airplanes

So, it seems that Spirit Airlines is going to start charging for carry on baggage. No, not for checked baggage (they already do that)…CARRY ON. That means if you want to store something in an overhead bin, you’ll have to cough up $45 each way. Absurd! When does it end? Will they start charging to use the bathroom? Charging to breathe?

The irony here is that Spirit’s rationale for doing this is because they think having fewer carry ons will help deplane faster. Hmmm, maybe fewer people would carry on if they didn’t have to pay to check their bags at the gate. (Kanye shrug).

I dislike Spirit Airlines for many reasons and have vowed not to fly them. The bigger concern is that the other airlines are watching this move to see how it turns out. If there isn’t a huge amount of outrage, you can believe that the others will join in. After all, that’s what happened when we started paying for to check luggage.
