Be Yourself. Who Else is Better Qualified?

I remember seeing that quote on a t-shirt my sophomore year of college. It’s something that’s kinda stuck with me ever since then. So, imagine how I felt when I realized that my work, my art, the thing that I love the most…was starting to look like everyone else.

It seems that somewhere along the way, I started focusing so much on the business side of running a photography company, that I forgot what I loved about photos in the first place and what I wanted to accomplish when I picked up a camera.

A long time ago, I told myself that I was going to photograph things the way that I saw them because I knew that my way of thinking wasn’t like anything that I’d ever seen. Working in the wedding industry has completely challenged everything that I originally set out to do, but I finally feel that I’m back on track.

I photograph because I love being able to tell a story with images. I like challenging what people thought they saw and putting my own spin on it. If that means that I only photograph one wedding a year, I’m now ok with that. All my other time will be spent working on the In the Light project, something that I’ve neglected to do.

Ok, so I know I’ve just rambled, but I’m a bit of a rambler and I’m ok with that. But, I did all this rambling to say, be yourself. Some people will get it (Caldeia, Julianne), some people won’t. Write the words that you want to see written, created that project you want to see created, design that pair of shoes that need to be designed, travel that unbeaten road that needs to be traveled…you’re doing a great injustice to the world if you don’t.
